Year in Brief
In 1998, some 24 projects loans worth a total of $143.646 million
were approved by the OPEC Fund. Also approved were two loans, valued together
at $12 million, to finance commodity imports programs. In the area of
grant aid, the Fund extended 32 grants amounting to $4.475 million, of
which $2.71 million went to finance technical assistance schemes, $215,000
helped fund research and similar activities and a further $1.55 million
was committed in humanitarian aid.
A sum total of $160.121 million was thus committed for loan and grant
operations in 1998, with disbursements amounting to $133.366 million.
