Heightening of the Roseires Dam Rehabilitation
Purpose:
To improve water management of the Blue Nile River by increasing the dam's storage capacity by about 4.4 billion m3
Activities:
  • heightening of concrete dam by 10 m, after first strengthening the crest walls;
  • construction of access wall to the dam;
  • heightening and extension of the embankment;
  • electrical and hydromechnical works, including refurbishment of all hydraulic and electrical systems of five deep sluice gates;
  • resettlement of some 7,400 families into new sites equipped with schools, medical clinics, water supplies, roads and other services; and
  • consultancy services.

El Rahad Scheme Rehabilitation
Purpose:
To improve the reliability and quality of irrigation water to improve yields and enhance food security

  • provision of water and power supply to staff houses and field offices;
  • capacity building and training;
  • establishment of a project implementation unit;and
  • consultancy services.
