OFID gets Award of Excellence for its tireless work against poverty in poor countries

In recognition of OFID’s “outstanding humanitarian deeds and enlightened leadership in creating a brighter future for humanity,” OFID has been presented with the Shining World Leadership Award. The Award was bestowed upon the institution by the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association based in Taipei, Taiwan.

OFID Director-General, Mr. Suleiman J. Al-Herbish, received the letter which conferred the Award “for compassionately helping Bangladesh in her time of need”, when on November 19, 2007, a US$500,000 grant was approved to help provide essential relief supplies and support emergency operations for victims of Cyclone Sidr. The Supreme Master, in her letter to the Director-General, praised OFID’s “timely response” in helping the country recover from the disaster, which destroyed thousands of lives and rendered tens of thousands homeless. She also thanked OFID for its “unwavering support and commitment towards the less fortunate.”

The Shining World Leadership Award was created to recognize “exemplary kindness and positive acts by governments, leaders, and individual benefactors around the world.”
